Callum Hope Bracelets – A Call to Arms!

We spotted Callum Wingate’s story by chance on Twitter when makers of the Callum Hope bracelets asked where they could find more pony beads. Our name happened to be mentioned and so it showed up in our news feed. We felt we had to tell the story and hopefully generate some much needed support.

A lovely gesture

Eight year old Caitlin Wolstenholme made a bracelet to show, her friend, Callum Wingate she was thinking of him. Seven year old Callum almost drowned whilst on holiday in Majorca in July. He has defied doctors who thought he wouldn’t survive but he is likely to suffer long term brain damage. Caitlin’s mother, Yvonne, wondered if anyone else would wear one to show their support. So she and Caitlin and her four year old sister Caila made 50 more and took them to playgroup. They asked for a minimum donation of £1 and the bracelets were snapped up. Word spread and within two weeks they had to make 400 more!

Caitlin’s original gesture has snowballed and her makes are now dubbed Callum Hope Bracelets. Yvonne has since set up a Facebook page and has had requests for the bracelets from as far afield as Spain. Proceeds from the sale of the bracelets are going to Callum’s parents, Lorraine Siddle and Robert Wingate while they take time off work to be with him at Leeds General Infirmary.
